As part of the “Art Exchange: Moving Image” curatorial fellowship by the British Council, LUX and Art South Asia Project, Seeing, س (Seen) is a exhibition curated by Sarah Rajper that explores the radical potential of the moving image as a space of fragmentation, resistance, and nonlinearity, inviting audiences to experience alternative ways of sensing and perceiving, challenging dominant visual traditions within Pakistan’s contemporary art landscape.
In a cultural context shaped by institutional preferences for static, commodifiable forms, Seeing, س (Seen) positions the moving image as a dynamic medium that resists categorization. The exhibition brings together works that embrace fluidity, disruption, and abstraction, mirroring the complexity of thought, memory, and perception.
The exhibition features artworks by Abdul Hadi, Farida Batool, Kaiser Irfan, Mahnoor Ali Shah, M4HK, Rabeeha Adnan, and Ujala Khan from Pakistan, and artwork from the British Council Art Collection by John Wood and Paul Harrison from the United Kingdom. Through disjointed narratives, temporal manipulation, and repetition, the featured artists unravel conventional structures of storytelling.
Hosted at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts in Islamabad, Pakistan’s premier institution for the promotion of traditional arts, the exhibition presents a critical shift in classical forms, introducing a contemporary language of moving image as both medium and methodology.
A series of artist talks, panel discussions, presentations, lectures, workshops, and film screenings accompany the exhibition.
The opening day of the exhibition will include an artist panel discussion from 6 to 7 PM.
Seeing, س (Seen) is realised as part of the Art Exchange: Moving Image programme. The Art Exchange: Moving Image programme is supported by the British Council and organised by LUX, Art South Asia Project.
