Notebook 7 / A Glimpse of Us is a conversation. Created as a collaboration
between artists and partners Ujala Khan and M4HK, this artwork offers an
intimate look inside the dynamics of a partnership as a story unfolds on a
single canvas driven by two distinct perspectives. The artwork comprises a
painting that is a continuation of a collaborative series by the artists and a
short stop-motion film depicting the development of the piece.
The painting is the 7th of the Notebook series, which consist of both artists
working together on a canvas with inks, paints, and most importantly, pages
taken from their notebooks, sketchbooks, diaries, etc. Thus, the piece is a kind
of a crystalized expression of a shared experience preserved in resin: a
snapshot capturing a collision of emotions. The film, in turn, is a collection of
snapshots: a story with competing narratives told in layers, as the artists
collaborate and compete for space to express their vision. Starting from the
same point of torrential expressiveness, communication and chaos take turns
in shaping the work until a harmony is reached between the two forces: a kind
of syzygy emerges as there is no more need for conscious collaboration, and a
quiet and powerful understanding dictates all actions.
